Francesca "Frahn" Koerner
Bio
Francesca “Frahn” Koerner was born and educated in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting with a minor in photography from Tulane University. In 1997, she received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Orleans, again majoring in painting with a minor in photography. Koerner has taught both at Tulane University and the University of New Orleans. An early Catholic upbringing, Spiritual Symbolism, and Buddhist Philosophy have influenced her artwork. She uses imagery such as boats, horses, and more recently the figure. These ‘icons’ are layered over an abstract field of paint and combined with an op art design or geometric patterning. Her multilayered paintings contain an undercurrent pertaining to the psychology of human relationships. Koerner has three sons. In 2006 she was awarded a two month Artist Residency from the Santa Fe Art Institute of Santa Fe, New Mexico. This was funded in part by the Pollock Krasner Foundation. In 2008, after 1½ years of traveling around the United States and Europe, and 2 ½ years of repairing property damaged by Katrina, Koerner has once again settled down in Uptown New Orleans. She was recently awarded a yearlong Louisiana ArtWorks Ford sponsored studio residency. Her work has been shown both Nationally and Internationally. You can check it out on the web at frahnkoerner.com
