Artist statement - Frahn Koerner 2019
My multi-media symbolic art is idea based, motivated by loss and transformation - along with the ensuing quest to find oneself. My work is a response to experiences in my life such as being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] in 2016, and a lifelong pursuit of recovery from trauma. My story, though fundamentally autobiographical, is also universal.
Writing has been an essential component in my process in the studio and my home. Recent drawings have begun to incorporate excerpts from my journals, as well as key phrases from the #metoo movement and contemporary politics. A prime example includes the Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nominee hearing, which quotes selected responses to the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
For several years I have been working on a feminist-centered series which, as in other works of mine, employs both camera and computer as fundamental creative tools.
